Extended release changed the game.
In 2026, Veradermics, Inc. published results from two placebo-controlled trials of its extended-release minoxidil tablet in 1,055 men with pattern hair loss. This is the evidence behind extended-release minoxidil.
Average gain on twice-daily dosing (+28.6 once daily), against +6.6 on placebo.
Reported improvement on twice-daily dosing (78.8% once daily), against 35.3% on placebo.
Hair growth was already ahead of placebo at month 2, the first time it was measured.

At MereBaal, we use extended-release minoxidil, an ingredient that helps slow hair loss and regrow hair.
Minoxidil relaxes blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. In the hair follicle, an enzyme turns it into minoxidil sulfate, its active form. Extended release keeps it in the hair-growth range for longer.

Minoxidil
Relaxes blood vessels so blood flows more easily
In the follicle
An enzyme in the hair follicle turns it into its active form
Extended release
Stays in the hair-growth range twice as long as a standard 2.5 mg tablet
More minoxidil, without the spike.
A standard minoxidil tablet releases its whole dose at once: blood levels spike, then fall. Extended release spreads the dose out over the day.
In Veradermics' study, the 8.5 mg extended-release tablet delivered more minoxidil in total than a standard 2.5 mg tablet, with a lower peak. No one on extended release went above 20 ng/mL, the level linked to changes in heart rate. On the standard tablet, 13.3% did.

In a blinded review of scalp photos presented at EADV 2025, dermatologists rated 82% of men on extended-release minoxidil as at least moderately improved after 4 months. For men on standard oral or topical minoxidil after 6 months, the figure was 14% to 23%.

An earlier Phase 2/3 trial (Study 302) showed +30.3 and +33.0 hairs per cm² in 6 months on once- and twice-daily dosing, against +7.3 on placebo.

Science that made headlines.
Extended-release minoxidil and oral minoxidil for hair loss have been covered by international, medical and Pakistani media.
Articles report on Veradermics' studies of extended-release minoxidil (VDPHL01) and on oral minoxidil for hair loss. They are not about MereBaal.
All trial results on this page come from Veradermics, Inc. studies of VDPHL01, an extended-release minoxidil 8.5 mg tablet. MereBaal's capsules are compounded separately, in 5 mg and 8 mg, and were not part of these studies.
